LEST WE FORGET...

Seventy years ago, they were preparing for the most dangerous mission of their lives.
Today, more than 650 British veterans revisited the beaches and towns they liberated on D-Day to meet the French civilians they helped to free from the Nazis.
And the day was an emotional affair for most - with former servicemen pictured weeping, beaming and embracing each other as they relived their heroic actions in Normandy in 1944.

don't think my generation will forget but the next one, sigh, I worry about.

I agree with you, Francie. When the heroes are gone, who will remain to carry on the memories?

We watched quite a lot of the veterans on the 6th of June -they were emotional as they relived what they had gone through seventy years ago- but what was lovely was that quite a few of them had sons daughters and great grandchildren with them and the children had been told about the D day landings and how brave our boys were-we think the BBC did a wonderful job.

You're so right, Diane. We should never let our children forget where their freedom came from...
