Today, more than 650 British veterans revisited the beaches and towns they liberated on D-Day to meet the French civilians they helped to free from the Nazis.
And the day was an emotional affair for most - with former servicemen pictured weeping, beaming and embracing each other as they relived their heroic actions in Normandy in 1944.

I agree with you, Francie. When the heroes are gone, who will remain to carry on the memories?
We watched quite a lot of the veterans on the 6th of June -they were emotional as they relived what they had gone through seventy years ago- but what was lovely was that quite a few of them had sons daughters and great grandchildren with them and the children had been told about the D day landings and how brave our boys were-we think the BBC did a wonderful job.
You're so right, Diane. We should never let our children forget where their freedom came from...
